Section II: Object
Acquisition of a Dynamic 4D Surface Scanner
The “dynamic” scanner “3dMDhead.u” that we intend to procure will be used for acquiring dynamic sequences of the human face in motion. It will be used for research related to treatment of children with craniofacial anomalies. The new system will replace our current system.
The 3D-Lab, School of Dentistry, University of Copenhagen has for more than 25 years collaborated with Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet and Technical University of Denmark on methods for analysis of 3D scans acquired in relation to treatment of individuals with craniofacial malformations. Since 2007 we have had “static” surface scanners that can document the shape of the face and head. The new “dynamic” scanner “3dMDhead.u” that we intend to procure will be used for acquiring dynamic sequences of the human face in motion. It will be used for research related to treatment of children with craniofacial anomalies. The new system will replace our current system.
The contracting institution is the 3D-Lab (3D Craniofacial Image Research Laboratory), which is a research unit physically located at the School of Dentistry, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The unit carries out research in the interface between medicine/dentistry and engineering. In particular, its mission is to develop state-of-the-art medical image analysis methodologies and apply them to craniofacial research. Topics include morphology and growth in congenital and acquired craniofacial deformities and cleft lip and palate, surgical treatment planning and evaluation, outcome prediction and genotype-phenotype correlation.
Section IV: Procedure
- The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
- absence of competition for technical reasons
The “3dMDhead.u” 4D surface scanner from 3dMD, Ltd. is the only system on the market that can acquire full head sequences with 60 Hz frame rate. It is optimized for use on all subject ages (has sufficient field of view to image moving infants). The system is compatible with our current and previous system supplied by the same company, in terms of resolution, method of texture mapping, calibration method, etc., which is a necessary requirement in order to obtain homogeneity over time in the results.
